Sharpening the Craft: Learning, Growing, and Connecting at the PPOK Spring Seminar

This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending the Professional Photographers of Oklahoma (PPOK) Spring Seminar, a weekend packed with inspiration, collaboration, and hands-on learning. It was an honor to learn directly from three powerhouse educators in the photography industry—Kristin Jones from Utah, Denise Watrous from Wisconsin, and Oklahoma’s own Gary Box from Sapulpa.

Each speaker brought unique insight to the table, from the technical mastery of posing, being the expert to the behind-the-scenes strategies that keep a creative business thriving. But beyond the education, one of the most meaningful parts of the experience was the camaraderie—sitting around with fellow photographers, swapping stories, comparing workflows, and sharing ideas for how we each run our studios.

With over 131 hours of continuing education a year, I can honestly say that staying current is more important than ever. The world of digital photography evolves fast—techniques shift, client expectations grow, and tools change at lightning speed. That’s why I make it a priority to keep learning. Because when I grow as a photographer, my clients benefit.

Every workshop, every conversation, every new trick learned—it all adds up to a better experience for the people I serve. Whether it’s perfecting the light in your family portrait, refining how we tell your story through branding images, or ensuring the print quality exceeds expectations, it all starts with staying sharp.

Here’s to growing, connecting, and always striving to be better—for you.
